Thirty-five years have passed since the January 20 tragedy
January 20, 1990, is a glorious date in our history when the people raised their voices for freedom and demonstrated courage in the struggle for their sovereignty. The heroism of the martyrs of January 20 will always be remembered as one of the bright pages of Azerbaijan's history of independence and will serve as an example for future generations. As in all regions of our republic, a memorial event was held in the city of Naftalan on the thirty-fifth anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.
The memorial event was attended by the head of the City Executive Power, heads of law enforcement agencies, the chairman of the Naftalan city organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, families of martyrs, war participants, heads of departments, enterprises and organizations, intellectuals, and the city community.
As a sign of respect for the memory of the victims of the tragedy, the "Memorial Complex of Those Who Died for the Homeland” was visited. In the administrative area of the city of Naftalan, national flags were lowered as a sign of respect for the dear memory of our martyrs, and at 12:00, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs, traffic was stopped, and cars sounded their horns.
