Geographical position

The city of Naftalan is located 330 km west of Baku, 50 km from Ganja and 18 km from the Goran railway station, in the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus, at the intersection of high mountains and hills. The Main Caucasus Range extends 70-80 km from the North-East. It is surrounded by the Lesser Caucasus 30-35 km to the west. The Naftalan lies on 238m above sea level. Usually summers are hot and winters are mild. The average annual temperature in Naftalan is 14.3 °C . The wind direction in Naftalan is mostly monsoon character. The increase of the average wind speed decreases the temperature in the hot seasons of the year, and consequently is more comfortable than the climate in other resort towns. The area of the city is 35.73 Sq. Km. Naftalan resort city can be reached by car from Baku and Ganja cities. In other way, it is possible to get to Naftalan by rail from Baku and Ganja to Goran station, and from there, it is only 18 km by public transport or taxi to the city. The closest route for foreign guests is a direct flight to Ganja International Airport.
